djay ideas/wishes

Hi - I'm new on this forum.  I've been a Windows Dj for a while, but put Djay on my Mac two days ago, cranked out a playlist and used it last night.  Not a hitch, though I was tentative about touching many keys for fear I might blow it up.....nothing happened and I kept it simple.  The automix worked flawlessly.  Awesome.

So here are a few ideas/wishes.

1. disable the Command Q key so you can't accidentally shut down the program while playing.  Using the menu works and gives a warning message, but he Command Q key goes around that.  VERY IMPORTANT.

2. Preferences for output. Please I would like to see the ability to port output for Table 1 and Table 2 separately to my USB external Gigaport AG sound card (four sets of outputs) so I can send them separately to my external mixer as I use the mixer for an external CD/USB player and my iPod for backup.  I didn't play with the pre-cue too much at the first gig, although it works fine, I need to get smoother with the keystrokes first.  Mouse is out - too much trouble during a gig.

3. Blinking display to show upcoming transition (selectable and adjustable via preferences for number of seconds before transition - input seconds to blink before transition, or i'd settle for check boxes for 15, 20, 30 seconds)

4. Would be nice to have display of both: Times, but forward and reverse timers in the display - no need to toggle then.....selectable as to which time has larger font perhaps.

5. Instead of History that one has to save, what about an auto-log that keeps your playlist from a gig, by date as a playlist in iTunes. (Can delete as needed).  Selectable: number of seconds a song has to play before it gets logged (allows for cueing up without song entering history.

6. Last for now (I need to play with it more) .... An awesome job on this piece of software, I will definitely use it more and more....thanks for a great job, very well done.  The price is right, but I would pay more for a few more user features as noted above.  Thanks. :-)

Re: djay ideas/wishes

Anders - hi

I am sure you've seen everything out there in DJ software.  For an FYI one can take a look at PCDJ Red VRM's interface (although I use a different skin than the stock skin).  A lot of what I have read in the threads are brought together in that interface.  Although I agree that spinning CD's and tone arms are of perhaps limited function, I like the look.  The only other thing that might replace something like that is a real-time wave form -like are seen in many of the higher end Windows platform dj programs.

That being said - I have used my Mac now 3-4 times and am getting use to more keystrokes.  I really like djay.

I need to play more with inserting different songs in an automixing playlist on the fly.  It seems to take a lot of steps, but maybe I just need for time using it to get more comfortable with it.

Aiport compatibility would be awesome as I can port to my stereo to get bigger sound while setting up playlists at home.  Keep up the great work. Thanks

Re: djay ideas/wishes

Hi,
I have a suggestion that would be great for me:if Djay could import files directly from an external drives without passing by itunes, all my files are WAV and it is stocked on the drive due to the place it takes.Otherwise I'm happy with Djay great software!
Cheers

Re: djay ideas/wishes

Hi to all,

I totally support the previous requests.

The full integration with iTunes is great, but one should have the option of also accessing songs which are stored in another folder/drive etc. without obligatory recourse to iTunes.

Some optical reminder, like blinking from a set time, before the end of a song would also be nice.

Also, hardware extension is needed: limitation to Vestax as far as midi controllers are concerned (though I am working with a VCI 100 myself) and exclusion of audio interfaces like Numark DJ i/o hurts!!!

Most importantly, auto BPM and wave display should be included (see other topic posts)!

Finally, maybe offering a basic and a pro version of djay, as suggested elsewhere in the forum, would be an option (within a reasonable price range, though...).

Tnx,

redM.

Re: djay ideas/wishes

Tony, what happens when you use the Cue-Pause on your VCI-100?

Re: djay ideas/wishes

IT JUST DOESN'T CUE WHAT I HAVE CUE SAVED, BEFORE IT WOULD CUE UP TO THE RED DOT AND STAY IN PAUSE NOW IT WON'T DO IT.  NOW IT DOES THE SAME AS THE CUE/PLAY

Re: djay ideas/wishes

We changed the behavior of the cue buttons on the VCI-100 and the Spin in djay 3.1 to use the songs’s start point (shown in white on the vinyl) instead of the cue point 1 (shown in red), in order to match the cueing behavior on all natively supported controllers.

If you already have (red) cue points set for your songs, you can change the mapping back to the old behavior as follows:

- Connect the VCI-100 and select "Configure" from the MIDI menu in djay
- Press one of the cue-pause buttons on the controller to select the corresponding mapping in djay
- Click the "Action" column for the mapping and select "Jump to Cue Point 1 and Pause" (instead of "Jump to Start Point and Pause")
- Repeat for the other cue-pause button
