SPIN not working

Just got my spin in today, and it's not working. Installed djay properly, hooked spin up (to my macbook pro, all system requirements fulfilled) using the included usb cord.  My computer recognizes the spin, and djay does as well (sometimes), but the midi functions aren't working. I just quit djay and rebooted it and now it's not recognizing the spin.  The switch on the back of the spin is set to usb.  The jogwheels are lit up, and sometimes the jogwheel play functions are lit up blue.  The tiny jogwheel in the center of the spin is lit up red. Basically, I can't control anything from the spin.  I'm not sure if this one is defective or what. Anyone experience something similar to this or know what's up?

P.S. I should probably add...the user manual says spin runs natively off of djay, however when I read djay's help section it reads:

The following MIDI controllers are natively supported by djay:
Vestax VCI-100 (default plate and djay plate)
Vestax VCM-100 (default plate and djay plate)
Numark Total Control
Numark Omni Control
Numark Stealth Control
M-Audio X-Session Pro
iTouchMidi iDJ (for iPhone)

?-It almost seems as if I'm without a map for the Spin.

Re: SPIN not working

update: now the thing is just acting weird; it's hooked up, but doesn't get recognized by the computer. the only thing lit up on the spin is the little red dot on the miniature jogwheel in the center. A few minutes later, the jog wheels lit up, and the right gain lights flashed a little bit, but nothing was playing. sounds like a defective spin?

Re: SPIN not working

djay natively supports the Spin - plug & play!

The minimum requirements for the Spin are Intel... sounds like you are on PowerPC? let me know if not.

Re: SPIN not working

We haven't heard of any similar case on Intel before, and we couldn't reproduce any of that behavior yet. Could you please let us know some more info on your specs, such as your Mac OS X version?

Thanks,

David

Re: SPIN not working

My problem is nearly identical to the one described here.  I got my Spin with djay software yesterday.  Followed instructions, hooked up the Spin which initially worked, then took it down and hooked it up today.  My MacBook Pro won't recognize it (Intel Core II duo, 4 gig RAM, OSX 10.4.11), the djay software says there's an update available but errors out when trying to get the update.  The computer has only shown that an aggregate device exists when djay is open, but djay doesn't recognize the controller is there.  NEED HELP!

Re: SPIN not working

For anyone having the problem with Spin not being recognized by your computer try changing the USB cord. My Spin Controller came with a faulty USB cord. After calling customer support and trying every possible option to get it to work, I hooked up Spin to my computer using an extra USB cable I had and voila! It worked!! If you have a problem check for faulty USB Cables!

Re: SPIN not working

My Spin doesn't want to work either.

The software is the latest version and works on screen with the mouse.
The SPIN is plugged into my i-mac (intel core 2 duo, Mac OS X 10.5.8) and set to USB.
The red light is on, but it's not recognized by the Mac.
I've tried re-booting the software, tried alternative USB ports, and tried alternative USB cables but it's still not working.

Any suggestions???

Re: SPIN not working

No, the minimum system requirements for the Spin are a 1.8GHz or faster Intel processor.

Re: SPIN not working

Please contact your Apple Store for a refund. While basic usage of the Spin might work with your Mac, a G4 won’t provide the horse power necessary for scratching, which is why the Spin box says that you need an Intel Mac for using the Spin. If you don’t plan on scratching, you should still be able to use the Spin for mixing and cueing.

Re: SPIN not working

Do you get the Vestax logo showing in djay when you connect the Spin?
Also, what version of djay are you using?

Re: SPIN not working

I am having problems with the MIDI cutting out as well. It seems to be random. The controller works as an audio input and output but I can't control any of the functions in djay. I tried swapping out the USB cable but it still won't work. I running djay on Mac OS X 10.6.2 on an iMac Core 2 Duo, 2.16 MHz. I also tried turning the unit off and on but to no avail. The Vestax logo does show up in djay and it looks like it recognized the controller but the functions still do not work. I was able to hook up my MIDI USB keyboard, map it to various djay functions, and control everything just fine with it. Definitely looks like something is wrong with the Spin controller hardware.

Re: SPIN not working

Mike, please check if you are running the latest version djay 3.1 by selecting djay > Check for Updates. We improved reliability with the Spin in the latest update.

Let us know if the problem persists.

Re: SPIN not working

I confirmed that I am running version 3.1 of djay and that the problem is still occurring. I updated the software immediately after installing it from the packaged CD.

Edit: I also tried the controller with a clean install of djay on my MacBook and it has the same issue.

Re: SPIN not working

In Audio MIDI Setup, does the Spin also appear in the MIDI window (available from the Window menu) or only in the Audio Devices window?
